Description

The Dual Core Saturator splits your signal at a crossover you choose and drives each band through its own saturation core, so the low end can stay composed while the top is pushed hard, or the reverse.

Characters

Warm, Tube, Clip, Tape, Ferro, Ionic and VO2.

Control

  • Parallel saturation wet level, Depth (grit & sag), Density and Drive (tube intensity)
  • Tone: Tilt (body/air) and Focus (mid/side)
  • Blue and Red transformer voicings, plus a Console treatment
  • Output stage with voltage L/R drift and true-peak ceiling
  • Job modes for Bus, Stem and Master duty; Push and Match mix laws
  • Oversampling: off, 2×, 4× or 8×
  • Spectrum, harmonic-content and RTA harmonic-injection metering, with gain match and residual monitoring

System requirements

macOS 11 or newer. Universal build for Intel and Apple Silicon. Audio Unit, VST3 and Standalone.

The current build is a licensed tester beta (v1.6.1) and requires an activation key supplied by Renegade Sound Labs.

Who it is for

Producers

Weight and forward motion on individual tracks, without reaching for the fader.

Mix engineers

Cohesion across a bus, with the low end protected from the drive that glues the top.

Mastering engineers

Density on the full mix with true-peak control and up to 8x oversampling before you commit.

What it does

It adds harmonic content to a signal and lets you decide exactly where that content lands.

A mix that feels thin rarely needs more level. It needs density: extra harmonics that give the ear something to hold onto, so a part reads as present without climbing over everything else. That is what saturation is for, and it is the reason a track can measure correctly and still sound unfinished.

The catch with most saturation is that the low end takes the hit first. Bass carries the energy, so it reaches the nonlinear part of the circuit before anything else and dominates the result. Push hard enough to hear the top change and the kick has already smeared.

How it works

One crossover, two saturation cores, recombined through a shared output stage.

The spectrum display showing the crossover set to 197 Hz, with the Core 1 and Core 2 frequency ranges marked either side of it.

1. You place the split

The crossover sets the frequency where the signal divides. Everything below it goes to one core, everything above it to the other. The analyser shows the split point and both core ranges, so you are placing it by ear and by eye rather than guessing.

The dual core signal flow panel with parallel saturation wet level, depth, density and drive controls, and separate low and high core amounts.

2. Each band gets its own core

The two cores are driven separately, with their own amounts for the low and high bands. Keep the bottom composed while the top is pushed hard, or invert it when the record wants weight underneath and clarity above. Wet level, Depth, Density and Drive shape what each core is doing.

The output panel with output gain, voltage L/R drift, true-peak ceiling and the Blue and Red transformer switches.

3. They recombine through one output stage

Both bands pass through a shared console output stage, which is what stops band-split processing from sounding like two unrelated plug-ins bolted together. Transformer voicing, voltage drift and a true-peak ceiling finish the signal.

Questions before you buy

Will it run on my machine?

It needs macOS 11 or newer. The build is Universal 2, so it runs natively on both Intel and Apple Silicon with no Rosetta translation.

Which formats do I get?

Audio Unit, VST3 and a Standalone application, all included in one download.

Does it work in Pro Tools?

Not yet. There is no AAX build, so Pro Tools is not supported. There is no Windows build either. Both are in progress but neither has shipped.

How many computers can I use it on?

Activation covers up to three devices on one licence key.

What happens after I buy?

You get an instant download of the installer from your account, and an activation key supplied by Renegade Sound Labs. Your account keeps the download available so you can reinstall later.

Is this the finished plug-in or a beta?

The current build is a licensed tester beta, version 1.6.1, and needs an activation key from us to run.

What happens to the price after the offer ends?

It returns to $99. Buying during the introductory period is a one-off payment, not a subscription.
