Drum knock box · with Dawgs Dabato Free

RSL DawgBox

Three knobs that make drums bite.

PUNCH lifts the hit, SUB tucks a tuned sub under the kick, and CLIP holds it all at 0 dBFS. A 500-series module made with producer Dawgs Dabato, as a plugin for your DAW, with zero latency.

Free. Version 1.0.0 installs through RSL Hub.

macOS: Audio Unit, VST3 and Standalone. Windows: VST3 and Standalone.

Built with Dawgs Dabato, voiced on real beats and made to the same standard as the plugins we charge for. It costs you nothing.

Hear it before and after

Each clip runs dry, then through one factory preset. Both sides are matched in loudness, so what changes is the knock, not the volume. Flip the switch while it plays.

From the beat No Competition, produced by Mev. Rendered with DawgBox’s own engine.

The eyes are the meter.

The Rottweiler’s eyes are red LEDs wired to the input: the left eye is the left channel, the right eye the right, and a mono track lights both. They flash on every hit and fade in about 150 ms. They never touch the audio.

Every knob starts at zero, and at zero DawgBox passes the audio through untouched. Turn up only what the drums need.

Three knobs, top to bottom

The signal goes in at the top and comes out at the bottom. Scroll down the plate and each knob lights up in turn.

  1. Knob 1

    Punch

Lifts the front of every hit by up to 10 dB and leaves the tail alone, so kicks and snares jump out without the room or the ring coming up with them. The knob over the Rottweiler glows amber as it works.

  2. Knob 2

    Sub

Finds the note the kick is playing and boosts a band right on it, with a shelf at 45 Hz underneath, so the low end gets heavier at the kick's own pitch instead of turning to mud.

  3. Knob 3

    Clip

A clipper that goes from soft to hard as you turn it, with up to 15 dB of drive into a ceiling at 0 dBFS. Push the drums louder and the peaks stay put.

9 presets, voiced on real beats

They load from the preset bar across the top of the window, in folders by what they are for. Step through them with the arrows, or save your own.
